The Alaska Afterschool Network is partnering with the Academy for Competent Youth Work to provide the Child and Youth Care (CYC) credential training for FREE to licensed school-age childcare providers.
The Child & Youth Care: Foundations course introduces practitioners to basic concepts and skills in professional child and youth work. The course provides knowledge and skills important to employment in any youth work profession including afterschool, early childhood, K-12 education, foster parenting, residential care, mental health, transitional living, recreation, juvenile justice, and community youth services.
Intended Audience: Educators working with school-aged youth. Priority will be given to educators at licensed school-age child care facilities, with 3 full-time years of work experience.
Course Expectations: Participants must be able to complete prework, in-between class activities, attend all 3 weeks of in-person training sessions, and complete the certification exam and credentialing process.

September 23-26 (Tue-Fri) 9:00am-12:30pm
Week 2:
September 30 - October 3 (Tue-Fri) 9:00am - 12:30pm
Week 3:
October 7-10 (Tue-Fri) 9:00am - 12:30pm
Certification Exam: Participants will need to register for a three hour testing block during one of the scheduled testing days.
October 14, 2025, 10:00am - 1:30pm OR October 15, 2025, 10:00am - 1:30pm
Registration close: Tuesday, September 2, 2025 or when capacity is filled.
Course is limited to 20 participants.
