Thank you, Congressman Young, for your dedication to advocating for afterschool

With heavy hearts, the Alaska Afterschool Network joins our fellow Alaskans from every corner of the state in mourning the profound loss of Congressman Don Young. A true Alaskan legacy, Congressman Young spent his life not just as a champion for our state, but also for our children and youth. As a long-time member and Co-Chair of the Congressional Afterschool Caucus, he was a staunch advocate for afterschool and summer meal programs, advocating for critical resources to ensure young Alaskans had access to out of school support. Whether fighting child exploitation, increasing access to child care, raising awareness of teen dating violence, or supporting homeless and foster care youth, Congressman Young’s bipartisan legislation never shied away from addressing the root causes of much-needed change. Despite his many years working in D.C., there was never a question that he carried Alaska, and our kids, in his heart. With sadness and immense gratitude, we thank Congressman Young for his years of service, and will continue to honor his legacy through our work for Alaska’s children.
